Ruben Amorim, 41, has been appointed AC Milan head coach on a two-year contract, replacing Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed after the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League. 'There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan has always been one of mine,' Amorim said. 'I know exactly what this club means: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world.'
Amorim departs Manchester United after 14 months, during which he compiled 24 wins, 21 losses and 18 draws from 63 matches. He forfeits the final year of salary owed by the Premier League club. Milan stated that Amorim brings a 'modern dominant tactical approach' to address the club's recent decline.
The Portuguese manager ended Sporting CP's 19-year domestic title drought in 2020–21, then won the league again in 2023–24. His first match in charge will be a pre-season friendly at Celtic on 25 July, followed by a pre-season encounter against Manchester United on 15 August.
