Chilavert criticizes Paraguay players for selfies after USA rout

José Luis Chilavert, former Paraguay goalkeeper, strongly criticized the national team's response to their 4-1 World Cup loss to the USA. "We lost with a crushing score, and then we see all the players taking selfies with their families, as if we're at Disneyland," Chilavert told TyC Sports.

Chilavert expressed frustration with the team's mentality and coaching. "If I lose a match, I don't want to leave my room. That's how I feel about football," he said. He contrasted this with what he saw as casual behavior from the team, noting that talking idly and playing guitar casually in qualification matches differs entirely from World Cup reality.

The former goalkeeper also criticized coach Gustavo Alfaro's tactical preparation for facing elite World Cup opposition. "Alfaro must know how to read what the opponent is trying to do. Playing qualifiers at home is not the same as facing phenomenal teams," Chilavert said. "At the World Cup you meet fighter jets, and we played like Super Tucano," comparing Paraguay's defensive performance to a light turboprop aircraft.
