Egypt defeat New Zealand 3-1 for historic first World Cup victory

Egypt defeated New Zealand 3-1 in Group G's second matchday on June 21. Finn Sorman gave New Zealand an early lead, but Mostafa Ziko equalized on 59 minutes before Mohamed Salah restored Egypt's lead on 67 minutes. Trezeguay sealed the result on 82 minutes with an assist from Salah.

This was Egypt's first World Cup victory in their fourth tournament appearance, following a 1-1 draw with Belgium in their opener. The win marked a historic milestone for the Egyptian national team.

Mohamed Salah now has 67 goals in 118 games for Egypt, two goals behind the national record of 69 held by current coach Hossam Hassan. Salah contributed both a goal and assist in the victory.

Egypt's first World Cup victory places them atop Group G with 4 points, which may shift market odds on group advancement and knockout-stage qualification ahead of their final match against Iran on June 27.
