Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang visited Ghana's World Cup squad at their Toronto hotel, delivering an official message ahead of their first tournament match. Addressing the team led by Captain Jordan Ayew and Head Coach Carlos Queiroz, the VP conveyed President John Dramani Mahama's goodwill and assured the nation's full backing.
"The entire nation is behind you," the Vice President told the players. "You carry the hopes of 30 million Ghanaians. Go out there and make Ghana proud." She added: "Ghanaians from all walks of life are united behind this team. We pray for your strength, your safety, and your success. Tomorrow, when you walk onto that pitch, remember that you are not alone. You play for Mother Ghana."
The visit was attended by Chief Justice Baffoe Bonnie, Ghana's High Commissioner to Canada Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, and a representative of Ghana's King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Ghana faces Panama at 7:00 p.m. ET on June 17 at BMO Field in Group L.
