Iran head coach Amir Qalenoi praised his team's resilience and tactical discipline following their 0-0 draw against Belgium in World Cup Group G. Despite Belgium's one-man disadvantage from the 66th minute onward, Iran could not convert their attacking pressure into a goal.
"We played well and could have won. Belgium is very strong, but they got lucky not to lose playing with 10 men," Qalenoi said. "I'm incredibly proud of my players. Iranian footballers have magnificent fighting spirit and battled very well against Belgium despite all difficulties."
The draw leaves Iran with two points in group standings, level with Belgium. Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand made seven saves, keeping the scoreline level despite sustained Belgian attacks in the first half.
Markets may shift on Iran's defensive resilience against European opposition, while Belgium's winless streak now extends to four consecutive World Cup matches, dampening their playoff prospects.
