Kane England's greatest striker, says Lineker

Gary Lineker has declared Harry Kane the greatest English striker of all time following Kane's two-goal performance in England's 4-2 World Cup opening win over Croatia.

Kane's brace—a retaken penalty and a powerful header—brought his World Cup tally to 10 goals, equalling Lineker's record accumulated between Mexico 1986 and Italia 90. Kane reached the milestone in his third World Cup tournament, having featured in Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.

Lineker, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, stated: 'Harry Kane is, I think, the greatest English striker we've ever had. His all-round game is, for me, what separates him from all the others.' Kane now has 81 goals in 115 international appearances and leads England's all-time goalscorer list.

Alan Shearer predicted Kane would soon break Lineker's record, saying: 'It's only a matter of time before he breaks your record.'
