Konate joins Real Madrid on free transfer from Liverpool

Ibrahima Konate and Real Madrid have agreed a deal for the France defender to move to the Bernabéu on a four-year contract through 30 June 2030. The 27-year-old is leaving Liverpool as a free agent after the two sides failed to reach agreement on new terms due to disagreement over wages and contract value.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35m on a five-year deal. Over his four years at Anfield, he made 183 appearances across all competitions, winning a Premier League title, FA Cup and two League Cups.

The France international is currently part of his country's 2026 World Cup squad. Real Madrid also completed summer signings of Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva (free from Manchester City) and Spain left-back Marc Cucurella (£52m from Chelsea) as José Mourinho begins his second spell as manager.
