Man City appoint Maresca as Guardiola's successor

City and Chelsea negotiated compensation understood to exceed £10 million for Maresca's departure from Stamford Bridge, where he had stepped down after a brief and turbulent spell.

The 46-year-old Italian previously served City as Elite Development Squad head coach (2020-21) and as Guardiola's assistant during their treble-winning 2022-23 season, giving him institutional knowledge of the club's methods and structure.

Maresca was identified as City's sole candidate for the role. City players not involved in World Cup action are expected to return for pre-season in mid-July, though transfers continue in the background with multiple bids submitted for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
