Forward Kylian Mbappé posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the morning of France's Group I encounter with Senegal. He shared an image of himself in the French national team kit, captioning it: 'Tomorrow, let's go!' as he readied for the evening fixture.
France face Senegal in their opening group-stage match at 22:00 MSK on June 16. The African side will attempt to replicate their famous 2002 World Cup upset, when Senegal remarkably eliminated defending champions France in the group stage at the inaugural South Korea–Japan tournament.
Mbappé will lead France's attacking line. Coach Didier Deschamps has tasked the squad with avoiding a repeat of that 24-year-old upset and advancing from a group that also includes Iraq and Norway.
France are among the tournament favorites. A French victory would reinforce odds for advancing from Group I, while a loss would significantly shift both group-stage and overall World Cup winner markets.
