McTominay cleared for Scotland's World Cup opener

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay was absent from the team bus upon arrival in Boston after missing earlier training, but re-emerged at Friday training in full health. Head coach Steve Clarke described McTominay as "perfect" and "ready to go." Captain Andy Robertson jested that his team-mate was "just seeking attention" with his illness.

Clarke has rarely used a 4-4-2 formation but deployed it successfully in a 4-0 warm-up win over Bolivia. John McGinn sat on the bench in that match, raising questions about whether both McTominay and McGinn will start against Haiti. Clarke stated: "We are delighted with Scott's abilities and what he can bring to the team. But we are going to need another 15 to bring the same if we want to have a positive tournament."

Scotland face Haiti at Boston Stadium on Sunday at 02:00 BST in their first World Cup group match after a 28-year absence from the tournament. The team faces pressure to secure points, with Clarke noting "Scotland have three games but not three strikes."
