Modrić to retire after World Cup 2026

Journalist Daniele Lungo reported that Luka Modrić will retire after World Cup 2026. The midfielder moved to AC Milan in summer 2025 as a free agent but the project did not meet his expectations, leading him to decline contract renewal beyond June 30, 2026.

During the 2025-26 season at Milan, Modrić scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists in 37 matches. His career has included spells at Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Zaprešić, and HŠK Zrinjski Mostar.

Croatia is drawn in Group L with England, Panama, and Ghana. The tournament concludes at the end of June 2026.
