Mourinho returns to Real Madrid as manager

José Mourinho returns to Real Madrid, where he served as manager from 2010 to 2013. The Portuguese coach signed a three-year contract and will officially begin work on July 13 during pre-season training. His return to the Bernabéu comes 13 years after his initial spell at the club.

Real endured a crisis season. Xabi Alonso was sacked in January due to player unrest, with internal conflicts erupting: Fede Valverde was hospitalized for stitches following a confrontation with Aurélien Tchouaméni. Madrid exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage to Bayern Munich, while Barcelona claimed the La Liga title.

During his first tenure, Mourinho won La Liga in the 2011-12 season and the Copa del Rey in 2010-11. His achievements include the Champions League with Porto and Inter, and three Premier League titles with Chelsea across two spells. At Benfica, he guided the club to an unbeaten league season, though they finished only third in Portugal.
