Pulisic optimistic on calf injury after USA victory

Pulisic was substituted at 46 minutes in USA's opening World Cup match against Paraguay on June 12 due to left calf discomfort. Speaking after the 4–1 victory, he said: "In the first half I felt something. I hope it didn't turn into anything serious. We were being cautious today, but I'm hoping to be okay."

The 26-year-old added that while he felt discomfort in the left calf, "this has happened to me before," suggesting familiarity with the minor injury. Pulisic stated he is maintaining a positive outlook, saying "I think it's nothing serious. We started this World Cup incredibly, but there's still a lot of work ahead."

USA manager took the precautionary approach substituting Pulisic at halftime rather than risk aggravation. His fitness status for USA's next group match will be closely monitored given his importance to the team's attacking play. The calf concern may affect market assessment of USA's injury depth and availability of key attacking players for knockout stages.
