Iran forward Mehdi Torabi faces an eligibility concern after his United States visa expired following Iran's opening World Cup match against New Zealand on 16 June. The 31-year-old was included in Iran's squad but did not feature in the 2–2 draw.
The Iran Football Federation confirmed that Torabi's visa was valid for a single entry to the USA only. The federation has taken steps to seek an extension permitting him to participate in Iran's remaining group matches.
Iran's base is located in Mexico on the border with the USA, from where the team manages travel logistics between fixtures. The visa must be resolved before Iran's next match against Belgium in Los Angeles on 21 June.
Betting markets on Iran's attacking options and Group G progression may adjust depending on whether Torabi's eligibility is resolved before the Belgium fixture.
