Tottenham complete £52m Jan Paul van Hecke signing from Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur completed the £52 million acquisition of Netherlands centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term contract. The 26-year-old reunites with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi after two seasons at Brighton.

Van Hecke stated: "It's a huge honour to become a Spurs player and when you join such a big club, it's a dream come true." He joins fellow Netherlands defender Micky van de Ven at Tottenham, strengthening the defensive options under De Zerbi's rebuild.

Tottenham have prioritized defensive reinforcement this summer, also recruiting left-back Andy Robertson and centre-back Marcos Senesi on free transfers. The trio addresses a defensive record that saw the club concede 122 goals in their previous two league seasons.

Betting angle: Tottenham's defensive additions may improve back-line resilience; Premier League top-four odds could adjust given enhanced squad depth.
