Thomas Tuchel's two-year contract extension, taking the England manager through Euro 2028, includes performance clauses, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham confirmed. The extension was agreed in early 2026, before the World Cup began. Tuchel's original deal was set to expire at the end of this tournament.
Bullingham stated: "There's performance clauses in every single contract at the FA, but I'm not going into any detail of what they are." Asked about a potential break clause Tuchel could activate, Bullingham said: "We can hold him to the contract."
Bullingham defended extending Tuchel before the World Cup outcome, citing the manager's quality and the risk of losing him to other clubs. Euro 2028, to be held in the UK and Ireland, represents a home tournament with added pressure.
