Turkey knocked out; Demiral praises Montella's backing

After losing 0-2 to Australia and 0-1 to Paraguay in Group A, Turkey has been eliminated from the World Cup with one round remaining in group play.

Defender Merich Demiral said in a TRT Spor interview that coach Vincenzo Montella offered congratulations and praised the team's fighting effort despite the disappointment.

"Montella congratulated us, he too is very upset, but happy with the entire team's effort. In two matches we delivered 75 shots — if you don't score, you don't score," Demiral said.

Reports indicate Montella could face dismissal upon returning from the tournament.
