Two brothers, two nations: Souttar family's World Cup journey

The Souttar family finds itself on two fronts at the 2026 World Cup. Older brother John plays defence for Scotland, younger brother Harry represents Australia—both earn their first World Cup call-ups. Parents Jack and Heather from Aberdeenshire plan to travel to the United States to support both sons, navigating 3000 miles between matches across six days.

John Souttar, 26, progressed through Dundee United and Hearts to join Rangers and has represented Scotland consistently since 2018. Harry Souttar, 23, chose Australia through his mother Heather's heritage and plays for Leicester City. Both started at Dundee United's youth academy.

According to father Jack, the brothers remain close and support each other despite playing for different national teams. 'They're always talking about games and looking out for each other,' he said. Family commitment to football helped them throughout their development: parents drove them to training and matches across the UK, including Dingwall, Fleetwood and Stoke.

The parents are prepared for the travel challenge, though the schedule is tight. 'It's a big thing to support both sons and both countries,' said Jack. 'If they progress, we'll have to figure out how to manage it'.
