Uzbekistan marks World Cup debut with historic first goal in Colombia loss

Uzbekistan made their World Cup debut on June 18 in Mexico, facing Colombia in Group K. The team suffered a 3-1 defeat but achieved a historic milestone when midfielder Aabbosbaek Fayzullaev, a former CSKA Moscow player, scored at the 60th minute—Uzbekistan's first-ever goal in World Cup finals history.

President Shavkat Mirziéev responded positively to the moment, stating: "Our footballers demonstrated strong character in the match against a very experienced team. For the country, the first goal scored at the championship is itself a victory."

Uzbekistan remains in Group K alongside Portugal and DR Congo. The team's next fixture comes on June 23 against Portugal, where they will seek their first World Cup points following the opening loss.
