Vuskovic impresses in Croatia World Cup debut amid transfer saga

Luka Vuskovic, the 19-year-old Tottenham centre-back, delivered a composed debut performance in Croatia's 4-2 World Cup loss to England, playing 66 minutes in a back-three defence alongside Josko Gvardiol and Josip Sutalo.

Vuskovic recorded five clearances during the match, more than any other outfield player on the pitch, demonstrating defensive solidity under pressure. Brighton recently tabled a bid for the centre-back, which Tottenham rejected earlier this week.

The defender was shortlisted for both Bundesliga Player of the Season and Rookie of the Season awards following his 2025-26 loan spell at Hamburg. Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic said Vuskovic 'will be one of the pillars of our national team for the next 10 years,' while technical director Romeo Jozak added: 'If he stays healthy enough, he will be one of the top superstars for the future, for sure.'
