Nick Woltemade is set to depart Newcastle United after a disappointing debut season, less than 12 months after joining from VfB Stuttgart in a club-record €75 million transfer. The 24-year-old German striker has failed to replicate his Bundesliga form in the Premier League.
Woltemade managed only eight goals in 33 Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 season. Most concerning is his scoring drought: only one league goal in 2026, a May 17 strike against West Ham, after a five-month dry spell since December.
Head coach Eddie Howe reduced the forward's minutes in the season's second half as tactical changes took effect. Despite early comparisons to Dimitar Berbatov following his technical ability on the ball, Woltemade could not sustain his impact.
Woltemade's potential exit could affect Newcastle's competitive valuation and future squad odds, as the club faces a significant loss on their record signing within a single year.
