Xhaka and Rodriguez set joint Swiss World Cup appearance record

Midfielder Granit Xhaka and defender Ricardo Rodriguez both reached 13 World Cup appearances each for Switzerland after playing in the 1-1 draw with Qatar on 13 June 2026, breaking the previous Swiss record.

Rodriguez, 33 years old, has earned 139 international caps for Switzerland with 9 goals and 14 assists since his 2011 debut. Xhaka, also 33, has 147 international caps with 17 goals and 14 assists, making him one of Switzerland's most prolific midfielders in World Cup history.

Both players have been integral to Swiss football for over 15 years, making this their likely final World Cup campaign.
