In the immediate aftermath of Switzerland's 1-1 Group B draw with Qatar, manager Murat Yakin explained his team's disappointment from the late goal conceded. Qatar's Boualem Khoukhi equalized in the 90+4th minute after Switzerland lost possession in the attacking phase. Yakin told Reuters: 'When our opponent scored, we lost the ball and allowed them to capitalize on that moment. The result is painful for us.'
Yakin acknowledged the tactical lapse while pledging to regroup. 'Now we need to return to our analysis, study the match, and become stronger,' the coach said. Switzerland had dominated with 26 shots and 56% possession, making the late concession particularly damaging to their tournament hopes.
The draw leaves Switzerland on one point in Group B, level with Qatar. Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina also hold one point each, with Switzerland in first place on tiebreakers. All four teams remain closely bunched in the standings with three matches remaining.
The stoppage-time equalizer significantly affects Group B advancement odds; a Switzerland victory would have moved them to three points and dramatically improved their qualification prospects in what remains a competitive group.
