Lamin Yamal stated he is not worried about being behind Lionel Messi (Argentina), Kilian Mbappe (France), and Erling Haaland (Norway) in the World Cup 2026 goal-scoring race. Yamal has yet to record a goal in the tournament.
When asked whether he sees himself on the same level as the three, Yamal said: "I don't care. I'm not fixated on this. First, they're all at least 10 years older than me. Also, I have a different style of play. I just want to win. You can score 16 goals at the tournament and get knocked out in the semi-final, which I don't want. I want to win."
The Barcelona forward emphasized that individual goal tallies are secondary to collective success, signaling Spain's priorities lie in advancing through the competition rather than pursuing personal scoring records.
