Amorim identifies van Dijk as 'transfer dream' for AC Milan defence

AC Milan new head coach Ruben Amorim has identified Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk as his principal defensive target in a rebuild of the Rossoneri back line. However, the 34-year-old Dutch defender's €465,000 weekly wage and contract running to 2027 present significant obstacles to any potential deal, with Liverpool unlikely to part with their leader.

Amorim, who will oversee Milan's defensive reconstruction following their Champions League qualification failure, is also exploring 24-year-old Gonçalo Inácio from Sporting CP as a more attainable option. The Portuguese coach worked with Inácio for four seasons in Lisbon and is intimately familiar with his capabilities.

Milan have already begun their transfer activity by securing PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos. Any substantial defensive additions would reshape the club's squad architecture under Amorim's tactical vision.
