Douglas Costa joins Al Ittifaq

Brazilian forward Douglas Costa has completed a move from Chievo Verona to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittifaq. The 33‑year‑old, who previously played for Juventus, Bayern Munich and Gremio, will join the Saudi side alongside fellow Brazilian Mario Balotelli.

After a brief stint in Serie D with Chievo, Costa signed a contract with Al Ittifaq, with the deal reportedly arranged by club owner Pietro Laterza, who also controls Chievo. The transfer was confirmed by both clubs on 4 July 2026.

Costa, a former Brazil international, expressed enthusiasm about the new challenge and highlighted the opportunity to work with Balotelli again. The move comes as the Saudi league continues to attract high‑profile players ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Al Ittifaq’s sporting director praised Costa’s experience and expects him to boost the team’s attacking options in the upcoming season.

Betting markets could see Al Ittifaq’s odds improve in the Saudi Pro League, reflecting the impact of Costa’s arrival.

35‑year‑old left‑footed winger/attacking midfielder Douglas Costa moved to Al Ittifaq. He has played for the Brazil senior national team since 2014, earning roughly 20 caps and appeared at the 2018 World Cup.
