The 33-year-old Shibi, not included in Morocco's tournament squad, published a video of Senegal's players after their 3-2 extra-time loss to Belgium with the comment: "Go and cry."

The taunt reflects lingering tensions between the nations. Senegal won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco 3-1 in January, but CAF annulled that result on March 17, declaring Morocco retroactively the tournament winner.

Mohamed Chibi is a 27-year-old Moroccan centre-back who plays for Al-Fateh in the Saudi Professional League. He began his senior career with Moghreb Tétouan, moved to Ittihad Tangier on loan in 2020, and secured a permanent transfer to Al-Fateh in 2022. Chibi earned his first senior cap for Morocco in 2022 and was part of the squad that eliminated Senegal at the 2022 World Cup.
