Tottenham have accelerated their interest in West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, targeting the Portuguese midfielder as central midfield reinforcement after Newcastle United rejected their £80m bid for Sandro Tonali. According to sources, talks between Spurs and West Ham are progressing positively, with the club optimistic an agreement can be reached for the 21-year-old.
Fernandes, valued at £80m by West Ham, has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Tonali retains four years on his Newcastle contract and rejected Spurs' offer, with the club citing the faith shown during his 10-month betting ban recovery.
Manager Roberto de Zerbi has already signed four players this summer, strengthening defence and goalkeeper depth after back-to-back 17th-place Premier League finishes. Recent signings include goalkeeper Martin Dubravka (free transfer from Burnley), defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson (free transfers from Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively), and Jan Paul van Hecke (£52m from Brighton).
A confirmed Fernandes move would bolster Spurs' midfield and could shift their title odds if he delivers immediate impact; West Ham would receive substantial funds for summer recruitment.
